The Makalu to Everest Crossing via three passes trek is for those who crave for an adventurous and challenging trekking experience. This classic adventure trekking trip of the Himalaya region is one of the brutal and most technical treks in Nepal including some of the highest and most challenging virtues in the Great Himalaya virtues network. While traversing the mountain range between Makalu and Everest your trial crosses through 3 high altitudes, two of them over 6000 m. Makalu( 8463 m ) a rarely visited gem prevailing between Everest and Kanchenjunga massifs considered one of the toughest 80000m peaks to climb is a peak that even the great Edmund Hillary failed to climb.
This life long memorable trip begins with freight to the remote airstrip of Tumlingtar whose trailers are situated in the streamy lowlands near the Arun river over the Shipton La and into the remote and beautiful Barun river valley before arriving at Makalu base camp. The trail to Makalu base camp from the south is considered one of the toughest routes in Nepal but you are more likely to get the company of birds like the hard-won reward of grand momentous view of the mountains and landscapes. The climbing adventure starts with the East col, followed by the west col.
After traversing the Amphu Labsta you enter the easy trails of Everest where you can take rest. The trekking route is scarcely populated by civilization and the majority of locals live in desolate villages. The first-day trekking starts with traveling through the lush subtropical Arun valley filled with dense rhododendron and pine forests where you will get the opportunity to witness the beauty of Barun glacier. While passing through Ship to la and Keke la your eyes will be blessed with the dignity of lake Kalo pokhari. After that, you will climb to base at 4755 meters which lies directly at the foot of the striking ice and wall of mighty Makalu.
You are rewarded with a panoramic view of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and Baruntse. After Makalu base camp we spend the day crossing East Col where you can already see west Col in distance. Crossing the West Col is another tough climb and after crossing it the next day we will travel through Amphu Laptsa where there is no obvious trail. You will have a magnificent view of countless other higher peaks besides Everest and Lhotse. After the pass, you enter through the Island peak area where you will find tea houses and hiking trails. In comparison, the trail of Lukla is more pleasant than any other day. From Lukla, you will fly back to Kathmandu.
